Never-Ending Waves

My mother’s daily severe physical and verbal abuse led to my sister Lynn’s suicide five years ago and the clinical depression both I and my brother Jimmy experienced (he died at just 49 last year). My point is this: The effects last longer than you might think possible.

Finally, the author of this article ends with the advice to help someone suffering from this kind of abuse (e.g. offer positive words as often as you can, instead). This is crucial because I received some positive encouragement at various times throughout my childhood—from strangers, teachers, and other family—but Lynn and Jimmy did not, or very rarely.

I believe the difference is a major factor in the difference between what became of my life and how Jimmy’s and Lynn’s ended.
